Description of Work:
A young family with toddlers and two indoors cats, living in custom-built home wanted to transform their rather bare-bones landscape into an outdoor extension of their home. Client’s wish list / design goals –
- Transform the blank slate into an outdoor living space
- Veggie beds, herb beds, relocate Apple tree
- Camouflage/hide Generator and the A/C unit
- Raspberries, blueberries, strawberries – kids’ faves
- Screen neighbor’s barn with plantings
- Outdoor living space for grown-ups, with fire-pit
- Improve view from sun-room window facing west
- Paths to connect the sun room to parts of yard
- Kids play area, with a small swing set
- Lots of colorful flowers / foliage through seasons
- Chalkboard, water table space, no choke-hazards
- Layered plantings to create a relaxing atmosphere
We created a new landscape for them, where adults are relaxing in the lounge area while kids play with bubbles, draw with chalk and take turns on the swing. Herbs and veggies are harvested for cooking while kids forage for strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. Paths connect these various outdoor rooms and the planting beds serve as living partitions to these rooms.
